Open Airways for Schools® Facilitator Recertification

The American Lung Association’s Open Airways for Schools® is an asthma self-management education program for children with asthma, ages 8 to 11. The program teaches children how to detect the warning signs of asthma, avoid their triggers and make decisions about their health. OAS is led by an American Lung Association-trained facilitator. Certification is valid for three years and facilitators must be recertified to continue to deliver the program. This learning opportunity allows facilitators to receive a “refresher” on proven-effective programming strategies, supportive resources to reinvigorate recruitment and engagement among participants and receive a renewed 3-year certification to continue delivering OAS.

The Open Airways for Schools® Facilitator Recertification Training consists of one module that provides updates to facilitators to renew their certification. Participants will:

  • Understand the OAS Facilitator recertification process.
  • Gain a greater awareness about current asthma treatment options and control strategies.
  • Discover updates to the OAS curriculum and supporting materials.
  • Identify tips for evaluating the program.
  • Identify tips for recruiting program participants.
  • Discover new ideas for delivering each lesson.
