The American Lung Association’s COPD Basics course is a free, interactive online program to help people
understand COPD. The course is ideal for patients with COPD, especially those with a new diagnosis. It
is also geared toward caregivers or family
members of someone who is living with COPD as well as healthcare professionals.
COPD Basics will help participants to:
- Identify causes and risk factors of COPD
- Recognize medication and other treatment options
- Have the knowledge and skills to manage their COPD
- Know how to prevent or respond to exacerbations
- Maintain a high quality of life while living with a chronic disease
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and
policies of the New Mexico Medical Society (NMMS) through the joint providership of the Greater
Albuquerque Medical Association and The American Lung Association. The Greater Albuquerque Medical
Association is accredited by the NMMS to provide continuing medical education for physicians. GAMA
